Volkswagen AG has started production of Volkswagen Polo in India on Saturday. Polo is going to be VW’s first compact car in India, and the company is planning to capture up to 10 percent of the country’s automobile market within the next six years...




Europe’s biggest car manufacturer Volkswagen is all set to take on Maruti Suzuki & Tata Motors as it is eyeing to double its workforce in India by the end of 2010.
Current VW plant in Chakan in Pune has around 1200 people. The current manufacturing unit can produce up to 110,000 cars a year, and will be used to manufacture the Skoda Fabia, Polo and a sedan to be launched in the second half of next year. Volkswagen had put around 580 million euros, or Rs 3,800 crore, in this manufacturing plant,
Volkswagen has also got a 20 percent stake in Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corp just recently.
